It is a study of time, gravity, and material. Dried clay is broken naturally and also intentionally. When it is shattered it is broken by following natural law calls Voronoi diagram, which reveals their own latent characteristics as a material. When I spread and juxtapose dried clay, the clay is stacked strategically, much like a puzzle, and creates a network of layers.

On top of wooden structures, clay begins to resist gravity. Endless action and reaction between clay and gravity makes tension which forms attraction. Gravity allows the layers of clay to fall naturally and autonomously to the ground really slowly, creating a new system of layers, constantly rearranging their body and revealing new surfaces of clay. This work presents us with the natural forces which alter material and cause its displacement over time. Beautifully written by Smithson, the “irreversibility of eternity” can be something that is revealed alongside this practice.
